The second year has come and gone.  How has everything passed so quickly?

There are days that I think, “Already two years?” and others where I wonder how it hasn’t been longer.
Marriage has been great and more work than I could ever have imagined.  But I am grateful for the way that is has refined and challenged me.

Before Pete and I got married we said that we wanted to memorialize each year of our marriage with an anniversary shoot.
We’ll be closing a chapter of our life together before the end of the year.  Hopefully moving on from our first home together and on to new horizons.  But before things changed we wanted to capture our life together as it has been.

We are so grateful to do life with our sweet friend Hannah at {Cottonwood Road Photography}.  She radiates and captures light in the best of ways and blessed us immensely with our lifestyle shoot.  Below are just a few of our favorites. Continue reading

{Blue Eye Brown Eye: Beginner Calligraphy Class}

Things I wish I would have done before I got married #123 – a calligraphy class.  But as the saying goes, it’s better late than never!

Why calligraphy you ask?

Well, here’s the deal – I committed to myself when I graduated college, got a corporate job and married Pete that I wouldn’t quit learning/doing things I love or was interested in.  To be honest, I thought my whole life was going to fall away and I’d be busy filling out spreadsheets, answering phone calls and cleaning house for the rest of my life.  And the idea freaking terrified me.  I didn’t want to wake up in 30 years and have nothing to show for it other than an extra 50 pounds and shiny counter tops.  So calligraphy it is (among the other things I blog about here)!  I thank God for his faithfulness in turning my juvenile “I’m too young to stop living!” anxiety into a true appreciation of the talents he’s blessed others with, the amazing things He’s created and the love I find of all the awesome things He’s allowed me to be a part of.

Okay, enough of the mushy stuff…

My very sweet and generous in-laws gifted me with the opportunity to attend a calligraphy class for my birthday and although holidays and other fun life things made it months to be enjoyed, I was pumped to be able to join the class in late February.

{Blue Eye Brown Eye} is a Dallas-based calligraphy business run by Lauren Essl (an Aggie, I’d like to add – whoop!).  Her studio is a part of the adorable and quaint one-stop wedding planning shop {The Bell Jar}.  The space was a bright, mod-hipster room filled with great natural light and a large table to fit both the attendees and sweet treats to enjoy during class.

{Betsy’s Quilt Garden}

I’ve been blessed to grow up in an extremely creative family.  My extended family includes but is not limited to: authors, artists, quilters, photographers, seamstresses, designers, sound/production engineers, and musicians.

My mother is no exception.  Throughout my childhood she created Halloween costumes that out-shined my peers’ polyester alternatives, winter coats that rivaled American Girl dolls, alterations to feed my teenage, clothes obsessed but on-a-budget shopping sprees, a custom made quilt for my freshman-year dorm, and even my wedding dress.
