Throwback Thursday: {2nd Anniversary Trip}

There is seriously a curse on our anniversary.
Our honeymoon forever set the bar too high and after last year’s hillbilly hoe-down (no seriously, there was actually a {prostitute} involved) we thought we’d “play it safe” and have a nice little staycation in Dallas.

And God laughed and laughed and laughed at poor Devin Bybel and her need to control and plan everything to a “t.”

Let’s begin.

It all started with a Groupon.  The ever schwanky and raved about {Adolphus Hotel} which is described with words such as “grandeur,” “luxury,” “elegance,” and “4-Diamond” was offering us regular folk an opportunity to stay in their lovely establishment at just a fraction of the cost!  Oh, how many nights I laid awake counting my lucky stars.  A night at The Adolphus…how magical!

And that’s pretty much where that party ended.

We arrived and valeted our car (for the low low rate of $35/night – kill me now) and let the bellman know that we had dinner reservations and would need the car later this evening.  “Just come down 5 minutes before you need to leave,” the Bellman said.  So many lies.

A 4-Diamond welcome never occurred as the front desk agent never even bothered to ask how we were or what we were doing staying at their “elegant” palace.  But she did use her finger to point to the escalator that would take us to the elevator.  Thanks, lady.

Arriving in our room we got ready for our dinner and being the control-freak I am, we arrived TEN whole minutes early down at the valet.  And we watched the clock tick-tick-tick.  5 minutes…10 minutes…15 minutes…lots of valets running around but no Bybel car in sight.  Twenty minutes passes and now we’re calling the restaurant to tell them we’ll be late for our reservation.  Perfectly pissed = Devin. {Stitch Fix #2}

1-IMG_2422_3741

The mailman was good to me this week – Beth Moore study, essential oils and my second {Stitch Fix}.
And if that wasn’t enough, Aggie football is happening tonight!  Gig’em!  WHOOP!  AHHHHHHH!  I digress.

You may remember that my {first Fix} wasn’t much of a winner.  Due partially to my own doing, I decided to correct my mistakes and was MUCH happier with the results this time around.  I heavily emphasized that my Pinterest board should actually be viewed and gave some specific direction on items I wanted (crossbody bag and dress).

DISCLAIMER: Please kindly ignore the hair/make-up situation in these photos.  Don’t hate. Continue reading

{Total Wine: Beer Tasting}

IMG_1250[1]
Saturday afternoon, double date, and beer.  {winning!}
Dallas has a limited number of breweries and most of the time they’re only open obscure hours on limited days.  Finding a good beer tasting requires willpower and a non-work traveling schedule.  Yup, not happening.

Not too long ago the sky opened up and sun shined upon D-town with the opening of our first {Total Wine}.
This place is GINORMOUS.  So huge.  Aisles upon aisles upon aisles of unique liquors, craft beers, and boutique wines.
Now you’re talkin’ to me! Continue reading

Anniversary Trip: {Arkansas – Part I}

Once upon a time…
Pete and I were married ONE WHOLE FREAKIN’ YEAR!
(what.the.what?)

I spent weeks trying to figure out a fab anniversary destination.
New Orleans?  Charlotte?  Nashville?  Fredricksburg?
Or…Hot Springs?
I hung out with my handy friend Google for hours.  In our adventures together I found articles, blogs, travel pieces calling Hot Springs, Arkansas “relaxing,” “beautiful” and “America’s best kept secret.”

Let me just say this: you can keep that “secret” locked up forever.
And you can buckle up for a short sitcom.

Your journey begins with an overnight stop in Little Rock.
You and Pete check into your hotel on {River Market}.  It’s a 100 degrees, and the A/C in the room is spotty.
You think, “That’s okay.  We’re leaving soon to walk to the distillery.”  But you forget to finish your thought “…walk to the distillery…that’s a mile away, in 100 degree heat, in new flip flops.”

Although hot, sweaty, and shards of glass and rocks are in your flip flops, you and Pete enjoy the deliciousness of {Rock Town Distillery}.
We’re talking moonshine flavored with red hots and apple juice with cinnamon and the best No Age Statement Bourbon in the world (literally). Continue reading
